Invitation Rules for a Destination Wedding
Kimberly Turtenwald
Having a destination wedding allows you to plan your wedding in any location you want. You and your fianc can create the wedding of your dreams that best meets your personality. However, when you plan this type of wedding, there are different considerations you need to make, especially in terms of your guests.
Inviting Guests
Inviting guests to share your wedding at your chosen destination is different than a typical wedding. You should send out the invitations further ahead so guests can make travel plans. The more help you can give your guests in the planning, the easier it will be for them. For instance, reserve a block of hotel rooms and let your guests know the contact information for that hotel. You can also provide a list of options in other areas, such as dining and transportation, to help your guests plan.
Limiting Guests
When you have a destination wedding, you probably won't be able to invite as many people as you would to a typical wedding. In most cases, this type of wedding requires a much smaller guest list, including only your closest friends and immediate family. However, that doesn't mean you can't let others know you are getting married.
Announcements
Instead of inviting everyone to your destination wedding, it is best to send announcements to everyone who wouldn't attend. You can send this announcement when you leave for your destination or even from your destination. On that announcement, you can include information about a reception upon your return. This way, you can include everyone.
When your wedding takes place at a destination, especially one that is far away, you won't be able to invite everyone. Invitations should be limited to only close friends and immediate family members. Keep your invitations specific so your guests can make all the necessary arrangements to attend. Making things easy for your guests will help you wedding go more smoothly.
