A Destination Wedding - Destined for Greatness
L E Walker
A destination wedding is a unique way to celebrate a new marriage. Think of them as a one-stop-shop for the entire weekend or week. Especially with the information available online, the bride and groom can do all of the planning from home, and show up to get married.
The easiest way to accomplish a long-distance wedding is through an all-inclusive package. These can be found at bed-and-breakfasts, resorts, spas, clubs, and more. All of the details can be coordinated through an event planner and the bride and groom will ultimately spend less time calling around to all sorts of different places and vendors.
It will vary by location, but the all-inclusive amenities for a destination wedding can include the consultant, music, cake, officiant, bouquets and/or flower arrangements, hors d'oeuvres or meal, reception settings and decorations, necessary marriage documents, photography, and honeymoon discounts or extras.
Depending on who the guest list includes, make sure to scout activities in the local area to keep the guests entertained when they are not occupied with wedding-specific events. There is a good chance that most of the guests will spend an extra day or two in the special location.
One disadvantage that is often mentioned for destination weddings is the cost. But look at it this way: the bride and groom would be paying for a wedding and a honeymoon in most cases anyway. Their personal travel costs will not really change that significantly, except for perhaps two or three extra nights for hotel accommodations. If the cost could pose a difficulty for some guests, the couple can ask the resort to offer a discounted block of rooms to the wedding party.
Everyone's special day is important to them, but with a destination wedding, it can be the setting for a truly beautiful, unique and memorable event.
